Wrong, weight loss is a complex science. We all have a friend who seems to be able to eat whatever he/she wants and never gain a pound. If it was as simple as calories in calories out how could your friend seemingly beat the system? It’s about how your body handles calories and everyone’s body is different. Discovering your body’s unique method of fat storage can be a hard process. BetterYou is dedicated to helping you discover your body’s method so you can have a healthy life.
The fact is this “diet” mentality will never work. If you go back to eating the foods that made you overweight before your diet you are guaranteed to add back the pounds. At BetterYou we focus on a lifestyle change not a diet. This change will help you maintain your weight without having to starve yourself to do it. Our three phase program is designed to take the weight off fast, find your body’s nutritional balance, and keep the weight off.
Sure it’s only two days, but those two days make up 30% of the week. It’s easy to see how splurging on those two days could negate your hard work throughout the week. A 2008 study showed that dieters who cheated on the weekends saw weight loss through the week but stopped losing and in some cases gained on the weekends. Consistency is the key to weight loss. Writing down your food intake in your BetterYou Food Journal is the best way to stay consistent.
It’s an easy trap to fall into “I’ll just do an hour more at the gym and I can eat dessert.” However, this is also a misconception. It is crazy for us to believe that we can change the way our body stores fat by exercising. Your body will naturally want to replace any energy you expend during exercise through eating not by burning fat. Therefore, increased exercise leads to increased appetite. This does not mean that exercising is useless, it just means that it is not an effective form of losing weight.
This is a common misconception. The fact is your body needs energy to function, and when you’re tired your body is low on energy and therefore needs to find a way to compensate. So what does your body tell your brain? Eat more! It’s not that your body is saving up more fat it’s that your body is craving more calories. Sleep is important when trying to lose weight and is vital to a healthy lifestyle, but losing sleep will only increase your appetite not your fat production.
A calorie is a calorie no matter when you eat it. Many believe that your metabolism slows down at night and stores more fat. The truth is your body is always using fat for energy even while sleeping. Your metabolism may be slower while you sleep but this doesn’t mean that the food you ate the night before will not be used as energy the next day. The real culprit is the foods we tend to reach for late at night. When your body is tired it craves quick energy such as carbs and sugar.
The theory behind this myth is that your body uses more calories to digest certain foods than the foods contain. These so called “negative calorie” foods are supposed to speed up your metabolism and lead to fat burn. While some foods may help speed up your metabolism for a short period of time, there is no evidence that this will create significant fat burn. There is no trick to weight loss. At BetterYou we believe in finding your individual nutritional needs.
